Being a designer outside of your home country changes you.

You don’t just translate words, you translate yourself.

There’s a quiet vulnerability in speaking another language every day. In choosing words more carefully. In listening more deeply. In learning how culture shapes perception, humor, taste, emotion.

As a designer, that awareness becomes your greatest tool.

Design is already about communication. Now imagine doing that in a language that wasn’t the one you grew up dreaming in. It sharpens you. It humbles you. It forces clarity. There’s no room for noise only intention.

Sometimes I miss the ease of expressing ideas in my native language. The speed. The instinct. The cultural shortcuts.

But at the same time, working in another language has expanded my vision. It made me more observant. More strategic. More empathetic.

I learned that creativity has no accent.

And maybe that’s the most beautiful part realizing that design goes beyond borders. That good ideas travel. That emotion translates. That identity can evolve without losing its essence.

I design in English.
I feel in Portuguese.
And somewhere in between, I create.
